ever since one of my very closest friends Nilofar got a job at the Selfridges Illamasqua store in London, I've become obsessed with the make up brand.
Currently featuring Vicky McClure (you know her, she's Lol in This Is England) as the face of the brand, they are much more than a makeup brand- they live by strong values and ethics, and back other projects which they feel are important.
One such project is "Dark Angel" for the Sophie Lancaster foundation. In August 2007, Sophie was kicked to death for nothing more than looking different. Illamasqua has comissioned the following short film, "Dark Angel", by Fursy Teyssier, featuring music from british alternative band Portishead.
I find all of this so, so inspiring. A makeup brand which not only holds strong cultural value and pays attention to history, but pushes the boundaries of creativity and personality. Not only that, but commissioning and supporting a cause against hate and prejudice- a cause which fights against something that affects many young people.
This brand is worth watching.
